The Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko announced on Friday that Sputnik V vaccine is effective against the new Coronavirus strain emerged in the UK.
Murashko said: “The research verifies that the level of neutralizing antibodies to the British strain does not differ from the level of neutralizing antibodies to the original strain of SARS-CoV-2.”
He added, “Thus, the Sputnik V vaccine protects against the mutated British strain of the coronavirus no less effectively than against the regular strain.”
The vaccine was developed by the Gamaleya Federal Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology and it was approved last August.
It has been approved in a number of Arab countries and it was widely used in a number of regional vaccination campaigns.
