South Africa's authorities informed their citizens and residents that the postal services in the country is just a few weeks from collapse.
The 232-year-old postal service is suffering from several finical issues, and it is waiting for an urgent plan from the authorities.
South African Post Office interim chief executive Fathima Gany said before parliament this week by revealing that the company is running out of cash and be liquidated unless it received $214 million from the government bailout by the end of next month.
Khusela Sangoni, chair of parliament’s portfolio committee on communications, told Financial Times that the problems at the company more serious than they expected.
“They dropped a bomb on us by telling us that ‘Day Zero’ would happen within a few weeks,” added.
