Sohag on Egyptian Culture Map

Believing in the role of culture and the importance of creativity in developing awareness and society, Dr. Inas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, announced the launching of Sohag project entitled “Sohag -The Country of Dreams, Culture And Arts”.

The project aims at spreading enlightenment and intensifying literary and artistic activities in one of the most important governorates of Upper Egypt- villages and centers.

Abdel Dayem said that Sohag project reforms the map of Egyptian culture and it comes within the government's orientations to pay attention to the south. It implements the strategy of cultural justice and raising the enlightenment in various parts of the country based on the decentralization of activities.

It is a model reflecting the unique Egyptian identity with its distinctive natural and human characteristics. It reflects the persity of activities included in the project to attract different age and social segments in the governorate.

On his part, Walid al-Darmalli, director and founder of the project, said that he was proud of belonging to Sohag governorate, which is a model of originality throughout history, adding that the Minister of Culture has formed a committee to facilitate and follow-up the implementation of the project's activities, which will run for four years. It includes a number of creative people in various artistic and intellectual fields.

He pointed out that the activities and events target the people of 11 villages and centers affiliated to the province.

It is worthy of note that Sohag project will enrich the creative environment in the province and its centers through presenting various activities: musical and folk evenings, poetry and literary seminars, cultural and artistic competitions, plastic and other workshops for environmental crafts and traditional industries, performances and film screening , theatrical festivals, youth initiatives to revive cultural heritage , programs to discover talented children.
