President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi welcomed the participants in the Heads of State Summit for the launch of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI) saying: “I welcome you in this important session, which is being held in partnership between Egypt and Cyprus.
In his speech during this summit, President Sisi thanked the Cypriot president for launching this initiative during the Sharm el-Sheikh summit to implement climate pledges.
President Sisi affirmed that the Egyptian state has been keen to join the initiative to coordinate climate action in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean since it was first launched in 2019.
"Egypt believes in the importance of the role of this initiative within the framework of coordinating policies to confront climate change, and in what contributes to strengthening climate action and efforts to overcome its negative effects in our region." President Sisi added .
He also stressed that the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean are among the most affected regions due to the consequences of climate change and its devastating effects at all levels.
The president noted that the voluntary initiatives aimed at mobilizing support for efforts to combat climate change have become one of the most important mechanisms for global climate action.
