President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed Wednesday that the government is making a great effort, saying "I will be happy when each citizen's monthly income reaches LE 10 and LE 20 thousand pounds."
During his speech at the inauguration of new development projects in Upper Egypt, Sisi stressed the importance of preserving agricultural lands, and the need to change the culture of population growth.
President Sisi said that the aim of the various conferences and openings was to raise awareness, noting: "The aim of these openings is to raise awareness. We can open projects and we can all be happy."
He also affirmed the need to confront the culture of building on agricultural lands and increasing population growth.
Sisi inaugurated Wednesday Assiut Oil Refining Company and several national projects in Upper Egypt, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
“The Assiut Oil Refining Complex is one of the state’s strategic projects within the framework of Upper Egypt’s development plans,” said Rady.
It is the largest petroleum complex in Upper Egypt.
It aims to secure oil supplies to the people of Upper Egypt and save the cost of transporting it from the existing refineries in Cairo, Alexandria, and Suez to the various regions of Upper Egypt.
Assiut is the capital of the modern Assiut Governorate in Egypt. It was built close to the ancient city of the same name, which is situated nearby.
It has almost 400,000 inhabitants. It is also home to the Assiut University, one of the largest universities in Egypt, to the Assiut Barrage, and to the Lillian Trasher Orphanage.
