On the occasion of Labor Day, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi delivered a speech on Sunday, greeting Egyptians, Arabs, and Islamic nations on the occasion of celebrating Eid El-Fitr and Labor Day.
"Celebrating Labor Day today is an opportunity to reflect on the progress that Egypt’s devoted labor has achieved to build the New Republic. It is also an opportunity to envision the future of our sons with a new spirit, one that is full of hope and hard work, for it is hard work that builds nations and civilizations," Sisi said.
He added, "The world has experienced multiple crises over the past years, mainly the coronavirus pandemic that has gravely affected the world of work."
"Millions have lost their jobs and new patterns of work have emerged, fully dependent on modern technology. Those who triumphed over the crisis were those who leveraged modern digital developments and kept pace. Therefore, we paid attention to digital transformation in all fields and services."Sisi stressed that "the wages of regular workers in defaulted companies were paid through the Labor Emergency Fund."
We did not relent in supporting business owners and issued a package of exemptions and monetary advantages to alleviate the burden off their shoulders until we managed to overcome this crisis, showing robustness and resilience.
International agencies and organizations praised these measures and considered Egypt among the leading international experiences in this regard. In addition to the coronavirus pandemic, the recent international developments have had a profound impact on the global economy and a direct effect on global growth.
Sisi noted that "Egypt is part of the world and is affected both positively and negatively by global events," adding "We had to adopt a few preemptive measures to protect the Egyptian economy against imbalance."
"The successive achievements and mega projects, implemented in Egypt over the past seven years, have become a major reason to withstand the challenges and crises. The prime target of those projects was to improve the quality of life and achieve a decent life for the Egyptian people," the president affirmed.
