On Thursday, the 22nd "COMESA" summit kicked off in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, with the participation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and leaders and heads of government of 21 African countries.

The opening witnessed President Sisi handover the summit presidency to his counterpart Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.

During his speech at the summit, ge thanked President Hichilema for his generous hospitality and warm reception and expressed his happiness to attend the 22nd COMESA Summit in Zambia.

President El-Sisi added that it was a great honor for Egypt to assume leadership of the summit over the past two years, during a very delicate period that witnessed important developments at the international and regional levels.

Egypt plays an active and pivotal role in the development and work of the regional assembly.

The state hosted the 21st summit in November 2021. President El-Sisi launched the COMESA medium-term action plan from 2021 to 2025, which aims to deepen economic and regional integration in line with the African Free Trade Area.

"COMESA" is held from 6 to 8 June, under the slogan “Economic integration for a prosperous COMESA based on green investment, added value and tourism.”
