Dr. Zahi Hawass, the famous Egyptian archeologist, is launching these days a new petition to collect signatures around the world. This aim of this step is to restore our stolen antiquities, especially the antiquities that represent the keys to Egyptian civilization, such as the Rosetta Stone, which deciphered the ancient Egyptian language and is in the British Museum, the head of Nefertiti, which is the only head in Berlin museum in Germany, and the Book of the Dead in the Museum of Turin, Italy.
I agree with Dr. Zahi Hawass, he launched this campaign more than once at the official level when he was Minister of Antiquities, and now at the popular level. It is not reasonable that we will open the Grand Egyptian Museum, the largest museum of antiquities in the world, and we do not have the important artifacts that contributed to deciphering the codes of Egyptian civilization.
I call on everyone to join the campaign launched by Dr. Zahi Hawass through his foundation. I appreciate the idea proposed by Dr. Zahi, which was agreed to be implemented through placing a written document, to restore Nefertiti’s head, at the entrance gate to the pyramid, the Grand Egyptian Museum, or the Museum of Civilization, this document would be optionally signed by visitors, and this document would be submitted to UNESCO and the international museums in which these pieces are located.
I disagree with Dr. Zahi in generalizing the request to all countries, as his blood will be lost among the tribes, but we have a major global opening that the world is waiting for, the Grand Egyptian Museum, and it is not reasonable for the invited presidents and celebrities of the world not to see, for example, the Rosetta Stone.
I hope that these signatures will be collected, or at least we will borrow these artifacts to be displayed during the opening of the museum, there should be a solution to restore the Rosetta Stone, the head of Nefertiti, and the Book of the Dead. These antiquities are priceless and came out of Egypt, as archeologist have confirmed, illegally.
I hope that the campaign aiming to collect signatures to restore our antiquities, will not only be a local one, but rather it will be a global campaign for Egypt to regain its right to its antiquities that were taken illegally.
