On Thursday, Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a session of talks with Israel's Alternate Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Yair Lapid at Tahrir Palace in Cairo, according to Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement, the spokesman added that the two officials discussed a number of issues of mutual interest and ways to enhance joint cooperation.
During the talks, Shoukry affirmed Egypt's firm position on supporting peace and stability efforts in the Middle East.
He also stressed the importance of working to revive negotiations between the Israeli and Palestinian sides in pursuit of a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution to achieve the aspirations of the peoples of the region for peace, security and prosperity.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also made it clear that Cairo will continue its efforts and contacts with all parties in an effort to create an atmosphere conducive to reviving the desired political path.
He also stressed the need to refrain from unilateral measures, including those related to establishing housing settlements in the Palestinian territories, which represent an obstacle to peace efforts and the possibility of reaching a two-state solution.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also touched on Egypt's continuous efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip and support the development requirements of the Palestinian brothers, in coordination with the Palestinian National Authority.
Shoukry stressed the importance of the international community's support for the Egyptian efforts made in this regard and for all efforts aimed at strengthening the pillars of stability and security in the region.
