In a disturbing new phenomenon related to the emerging anti-coronavirus vaccines, an American hospital employee suffered severe allergic symptoms after receiving a dose of the vaccine produced by the Moderna company.
Oregon health officials said, Thursday, that a Wallowa hospital employee had a severe allergic reaction to the first dose of the vaccine she received this week.
According to a statement by the state health authority, the employee was detained in the hospital to follow up on her condition, while no information was received regarding whether she had a previous history of allergic reactions.
This is the first time that state officials have reported that a person from Oregon has had a severe allergic reaction to an anti-coronavirus vaccine since the vaccination campaign began in mid-December.
According to the New York Times, allergic side effects sometimes appeared on people who received the Pfizer- BioNTech vaccine, while the symptoms of the Moderna vaccine were limited to mild pain, fatigue, nausea, and headache.
American health officials say that the Moderna vaccine may cause weak allergic reactions, according to a study conducted at the level of the United States revealed.
Because the vaccine underwent testing and approved on a significantly faster schedule than usual, officials indicated that future data could show otherwise.
"Monitoring those who have been vaccinated will be critical to detect any serious adverse events that have not been detected in clinical trials," the Immunology Advisory Committee said earlier in December.
The American Health Authority urged people who have experienced severe allergic reactions to other vaccines, to speak with their doctors about whether it is safe for them to get a vaccine against COID-19.
In Oregon, the western United States, more than 38,000 people received anti-Corona vaccines, the Moderna share of them was about 12 thousand.
