The spokeswoman for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Claire Nullis, said that the current severe heat wave that hit Europe and Africa over the last few days, is supposed to end, on Sunday, but this does not mean that it will not be repeated later in the summer.
Nullis added - in a statement today - that the unusually strong wave spread from North Africa through Europe.
She noted that temperatures were more common than those experienced in Europe in July or August, as in some parts of Spain and France they were above average at this time of year it is more than 10 degrees Celsius.
She referred to the expectations of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which states that if the Earth warms by 1.5 degrees Celsius, there will be increased heat waves, longer warm seasons, and shorter cold seasons.
