The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha addressed the inaugural session of the International Conference on “Girls Education in Muslim Societies: Challenges and Opportunities” In Islamabad, Pakistan.
The Conference was jointly organized by the Government of Pakistan and the Muslim World League (MWL). The participants of the conference included numerous education ministers from OIC countries, academicians, scholars, practitioners, and Nobel prize winner Malala Yusufzai.
The OIC Secretary-General stated that educated women were an asset to the Muslim societies and their contributions in the development pursuits were crucial.
He also said that the OIC decisions and resolutions adopted at the Summit level as well as Ministerial meetings had unanimously and unambiguously highlighted the importance of girls' education and prioritized the formulation of durable policies and allocation of budgetary resources.
He said that the Holy Quran and the teachings of the Holy Prophet had given very directions to the Muslims on the girl's education. He emphasized that Islam does not discriminate in providing education to men and women.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan H. E. Me Shahbaz Sharif, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Education Minister of Pakistan also addressed the inaugural session. They urged the governments to prioritize girls' education in their policies and budgetary allocations. They thanked the Secretary-General for his participation in the Conference.
On the sidelines of the Conference, the Secretary-General held meetings with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, and Education Minister of Pakistan. He had also held a discussion with the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League.
