Scorpion strike in Egypt, following rains and stormy weather: Three people died and another 450 were injured in Aswan in southern Egypt after being stung by scorpions that invaded streets and houses in the southern city
The Egyptian Ministry of Health is concerned about the situation and is asking citizens to take extra care against the danger of scorpions.
The scorpion plague comes after heavy rains and hail hit southern Egypt in recent days. As a result of the rains and winds, the scorpions were washed into the streets and houses of people.
Extra doses of anti-venom have been provided to assist hospital doctors in providing medical care to injured patients.
Scorpion stings are usually not fatal, and typically only cause pain, numbness and tingling, and swelling, according to the Mayo Clinic.
However, severe cases show symptoms including difficulty breathing, muscle twitching or thrashing, unusual head, neck and eye movements, drooling, sweating, nausea and vomiting, high blood pressure (hypertension), accelerated heart rate (tachycardia), restlessness or excitability.
