Today, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz revealed that he has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

According to the German news agency, this announcement comes as Scholz plans to reduce his commitments.

In a tweet, Scholz stated, "It is clear that this is not a happy surprise for me. My current tests for COVID-19 have confirmed my infection with the virus."

Despite experiencing only mild symptoms, Scholz mentioned, "I am engaging in moderate activities and currently working from my office."

His spokesperson, Stefan Hebner, confirmed that Scholz is currently at his office and participating in government activities via video conferencing.

As a precautionary measure, Chancellor Scholz will not attend public engagements today and tomorrow. Additionally, a planned visit by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled.

Chancellor Scholz's announcement underscores the continued challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, even for high-profile leaders.
