Save the Children: Education in Quarter of World Collapses due to Corona

A report authored by experts of the British organization Save the Children revealed today, Monday, that the education of hundreds of millions of children is threatened in an unprecedented way due to the Coronavirus pandemic that as well as the climate change crisis.

According to the report of the British NGO,  classrooms in most parts of the world preparing to reopen after the summer break, a quarter of countries, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa, have school systems at high risk of collapsing.

The United Nations  (UN) estimates that for the first time in history, around 1.5 billion children were out of schooling during the pandemic, with at least a third of them unable to access distance learning.

With much of the developing world currently facing an interconnected set of crises including extreme poverty, the coronavirus, climate breakdown, and violence, there are growing fears that a generation of learners will be lost.

In analyzing countries according to their vulnerability, the organization found that 8 countries with school systems are at high risk, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, and Somalia being the most vulnerable, followed by Afghanistan.

On the other hand, Randeep Guleria, President of the Indian Institute for Medical Sciences, said that the government plans to launch a campaign to vaccinate children in the country against the COVID-19) this month.

He pointed out that producers of the vaccines were given approval by the concerned agencies in India.

He made statements to " NDTV", an Indian satellite channel, that Zydus Cadila" company has conducted the necessary experiments and it expects an emergency approval of the Indian authorities.

He stressed that trials of "Bharat Biotech" and Covaxin" for children next August or September before they get authorization by government agencies.

He added that he hopes that the Indian authorities will start vaccinating children by next September, which will be a great incentive to cut the chain of transmission.

The Indian government previously has announced ambitious plans to vaccinate all adult citizens in the country by the end of this year.

As of Saturday morning, India had used 427 million 882,261 doses of the anti-corona vaccines.

The health authorities recommend the use of 3 vaccines against the Coronavirus has been approved in India, which are the “Covishield” vaccine made in India and invented by the British-Swedish company “AstraZeneca”, the “Covaxin” vaccine produced by the Indian “Bharat Biotech” company, and the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine.

Data from the national  Indian Ministry of Health showed that more than 35,000 new cases of coronavirus and 483 deaths had been recorded in the past 24 hours in parts of the country where the western districts reported the highest rate of infection with the deadly virus.

The Indian Ministry of Health said in a statement published yesterday, Friday that 35 thousand new cases of coronavirus were recorded, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 31.29 million.

The statement added, and 483 new deaths from the virus were recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 419,470, according to government data.
