The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) announced the launch of a self-driving shuttle bus experiment, for the first time in the Hajj season, to facilitate transportation for pilgrims this year.

According to the statement of the General Authority for Transport in Saudi Arabia, self-driving buses use artificial intelligence technologies, cameras, and sensors surrounding them to drive without human intervention, within a specific route.

The statement added that the buses collect information during movement and analyze it to make the necessary decisions.

According to the statement, one bus can accommodate 11 seats, travel 6 hours per trip, and reaches a speed of 30 km per hour.

The experiment aims to facilitate the movement of pilgrims, measure the feasibility of using these technologies in Hajj, and set the necessary conditions for them in the coming years to operate them commercially.
