Today, the visit of a "Santa Claus" or "Christmas man" caused a disaster in a nursing home in Belgium.

A spokesman for the health authorities in Belgium, Joris Mooens that the visit of "Santa Claus" to attend a celebration at a nursing home in the city of Mall in the Belgian province of Antwerp at the end of December had dire consequences for the home, which so far witnessed the death of at least 26 people infected with Coronavirus after the visit.

Saint Nikolaos, who played the role of Santa Claus, had tested positive for Coronavirus after visiting the house.

Moonens confirmed that he had subsequently discovered cases of the same variant of the virus among the home's 179 inmates and their workers as well.

The Belgian news agency "Belga" reported that there were 85 positive cases among the inmates, in addition to 40 other cases among the workers at the home.

The spokesman added that it may not be clear at all whether the Christmas man's role really infected the inmates with the virus, or if he contracted it there.

The spokesman also said that it is also blurred whether the general hygiene rules were adhered to during the ceremony or not, indicating that there are different views on this.

He added, "Everyone agrees that organizing such an event at such a difficult time was not a good idea."
