Tunisian President Kais Saied announced the dissolution of Supreme Judicial Council (CSM), on Thursday, affirming that Tunisia is a sovereign country.
"Tunisia is a sovereign country striving to establish a law-abiding society," Saied reiterated to the countries and international organisations who reacted to his decision.
"Some capitals and organisations are concerned about the dissolution of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary. They were not when justice was not served in Tunisia, or when billions of dollars whose fate is still unknown were misused," the president pointed out in a video of his talk on Wednesday with Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi.

"We are also worried about their concern, as we are a sovereign State that is more aware of international balances, conventions and agreements than they are, and we are committed to freedom, democracy and justice," Said added.
In the same vein, Saied asserted that "those who voice their concern are well aware of the overruns that have been committed as well as the assassinations and misuse of public funds, and they do not seem to care."
"the judiciary is a function," he further underlined, adding that "independence does not mean sabotaging justice from within."
On Sunday, the president claimed that his decision is due to the council's delay in issuing rulings in cases of corruption and terrorism.
“In this council, positions and appointments are sold according to loyalties. Their place is not the place where they sit now, but where the accused stand,” he said in a speech in the interior ministry.
