Russian state media said that Russia's only aircraft carrier and the flagship of Russia's naval fleets, the Admiral Kuznetsov, caught fire while it was undergoing maintenance work.
The aircraft carrier, whose maintenance began in 2017, was supposed to return to service in 2022, but it suffered several accidents. In 2018, a crane collapsed on the ship's hull, opening a porthole in the ship's hull. In 2019, a fire broke out on board due to a fuel leak during maintenance work, killing two people and injuring more than 10 others.
Alexei Rakhmonov, the director in charge of the United Shipbuilding Corporation that manages the maintenance work told Russian media that the fire was small and quickly extinguished.
Rakhmonov added that all fire extinguishing systems worked properly and there were no damages or injuries.
The ship is currently being repaired in Mumansk, Russia, and its return to service has been delayed until the first quarter of 2024.
