Russian Defense Minister Shoigu Inspects Northern Fleet

The Russian Defense Ministry said, on Saturday, that Minister Sergei Shoigu had inspected formations of the Northern Fleet in the isolated Arctic region.

The ministry stated, via the Telegram, that a group of Russian warships had set off at sea to perform missions in the Arctic region of the Arctic Ocean.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that Shoigu examined the organization of the service and the progress of the implementation of the tasks assigned to the special units deployed in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, including their readiness to work to protect and defend vital sites .

The minister also examined the readiness of social infrastructure facilities in the village of Belushia Guba in Novaya Zemlya, where the northernmost school in Russia is located, which can accommodate 250 students .

The statement stated that Shoigu, accompanied by the Director General of the Russian company "Rosatum" Alexei Likhachev, made an aerial tour over the sites of the Central Experimental Field of the Russian Federation, whose main tasks at the current stage are to conduct tests of promising models of weapons and military equipment .
