Russia called for the immediate and unconditional lifting of the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade on Cuba.

Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, voiced this demand on Wednesday, urging the US administration and Congress to heed the universal call, commence lifting the blockade on Cuba, and remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism without any preconditions or undermining its national sovereignty.

Nebenzya, aligning with the overwhelming majority of the international community, reiterated the call for the immediate and unconditional removal of the American economic blockade on Cuba.

He affirmed Russia's support for the General Assembly’s resolution proposal to lift the American blockade, a proposition that comes up for vote annually.

He criticized the US and its allies for imposing unilateral and illegitimate sanctions, bypassing the International Security Council, reflecting a blatant new colonial character, and based on regular attempts to persecute and suppress regimes they disapprove of globally.

He noted that the blockade against a sovereign state that poses no threat to the US or its citizens undermines the foundations of global and regional stability and development.

Nebenzya pointed out that the economic losses due to the blockade amounted to $4.8 billion between March 2022 and February 2023, bringing the total damage to $159 billion since the imposition of the blockade.
