Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the Baltic Sea will not become an inland sea for NATO, as Polish President Andrzej Duda claimed.

This came in response to a question from journalists in this regard, where Zakharova commented, "As they said in the past: there is no harm in dreaming."

The Polish President had previously mentioned that the Baltic Sea, with the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO, would become an internal basin for the alliance.

Zakharova explained that the Baltic Sea is surrounded not only by the territory of the member states of (NATO) but also by Russia.

She added that the Baltic Sea cannot be considered internal to the Alliance, and the accession of Finland and Sweden to (NATO) does not affect this fact in any way, no matter what they think in Poland or anywhere else.

The Russian foreign ministry spokesperson also indicated that Moscow's reaction to "this event will depend on the nature and extent of the resulting threats to Russia's security," stressing that if necessary, all the needed military and technical measures will be taken against it, including in the waters of the so-called "inland sea".
