On Saturday, Russia accused Western countries of "destabilizing" the G20 financial summit in India, by trying to work on adopting a joint statement on Ukraine through "provocation", which did not happen due to discrepancies.

"We regret that the activities of the G20 continue to be destabilized by the Western collective and used in an anti-Russian... way," the foreign ministry said.

Finance ministers of the G20 countries strongly condemned Russia's war on Ukraine, while only China and Russia refused to sign a joint statement.

India, the G20 chair hosting the meeting in Bengaluru, hesitated to raise the issue of war, but the European countries insisted they could not support any final statement that did not condemn it.

The G20 includes the G7 countries in addition to Saudi Arabia, Australia, Brazil, and others.

"It has become difficult for the G20 to engage in constructive discussions because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, an act that shakes the foundations of the world order," Japanese Finance Minister Shun'ichi Suzuki told reporters.
