Romania's Ceatalchioi community, led by Mayor Tudor Chernega, is contemplating the potential evacuation of Plauru village due to frequent Russian attacks on neighboring Ukraine's Izmail. The decision comes after ongoing incidents in which Russian drones, targeting the port of Izmail, have been flying over Plauru, located just 300 meters away, and some have even come dangerously close to the village.

On September 7th, Romanian news outlet Digi24 reported on the discussions between Mayor Chernega and Romania's Defense Minister regarding the situation. While not all residents of Plauru are willing to leave their birthplace, the mayor proposed the idea of a voluntary evacuation during the meeting. Chernega appealed to the authorities for support, requesting that those who choose to relocate be provided with accommodation and food, similar to the conditions offered to Ukrainians.

The issue gained further attention after Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar acknowledged on September 6th that parts of a Russian drone used in attacks on Ukraine had fallen on Romanian territory. Previously, Romania had "categorically denied" reports of debris falling on its soil, stating that Russian attacks did not pose direct military threats to the country's territory or territorial waters.

Given the escalating tensions and potential risks posed by the Russian attacks, Romania is now seriously considering the evacuation of Plauru village in order to ensure the safety of its residents.
