Reports: South African Referee Victor Gomez to Retire after 2022 World Cup

South African newspapers claimed on referee Victor Gomez will retire after the end of the 2022 World Cup.

"iDiski Times" newspaper said that the well-known referee will run his last match in the South African league before flying to Qatar to start his adventure in the World Cup.

The newspaper also added that the South African referee will retire in January 2023.

The 39-year-old international referee started his brilliant career in 2008 as he was awarded as the best referee in South Africa in the 2012-13 and 2017-18 seasons.

He became as an international referee in 2011.

He was selected in the 2019 and 2021 Africa Cup of Nations among the Referees crew for the two tournaments as he was in charge of Egypt vs. Senegal final of the 2021 tournament.

He also ran the CAF Champions League final match between Al Ahly and Wydad in 2022.
