The Red Cross organization said today, Tuesday, that the spike in infection with the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19) resembles a humanitarian catastrophe in Idnodesia due to the spread of the Delta stain, the fastest variant of the virus.
The non-government organization stressed the hospital in Indonesia near collapse under heavy pressure resulted from the COVID-19.
The country has registered 20 thousand infections daily over the last few days as a new wave of the virus sweeps through Indonesia owing to the new strain and lifting of travel restrictions after the holy month of Ramadan.
Jan Gelfand, head of the mission of the Red Cross and Crescent organization in Indonesia, said that the strain of " Delta" pushes the country day after day to the brink of the catastrophe.
He urges all countries in the world to improve operations of distribution of the anti-corona among the rich and poor nations to face the challenges of the pandemic.
Indonesian hospitals, in areas including Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, ranked as red, have announced that they exceeded their capacity.
The percentage of occupation in hospitals until Sunday reached 93%.
It is worth noting the " Delta" strain was detected for the first time in India and then transferred to various parts of the globe.
However, Indonesia bets on the collective vaccination of the population to curb the increasing infections.
But only 13,3 million, of 181,5 million qualified Indonesians, have received two doses of the vaccine since January 2021.
In the same line, Indonesia's President Goku Widodo said that his government plans to vaccinate about two million people daily by next August.
He urged, via a virtual conference, all officials in the country, to distribute one million doses a day until the end of next July.
He revealed that the health authorities succeeded in distributing 1,3 million doses last Saturday.
He praised the work of all parties participating in the campaign of vaccination across the country.
