Real Madrid suffered a surprise 2–1 defeat away to Osasuna on Saturday night in Matchday 25 of the Spanish La Liga, opening the door for Barcelona to seize the top spot.
Osasuna struck first late in the first half, with Croatian striker Ante Budimir converting a penalty in the 38th minute to give the hosts a deserved lead.
Real Madrid responded after the break, and Brazilian star Vinícius Júnior brought the visitors level in the 73rd minute, briefly restoring hopes of a comeback.
However, Osasuna delivered the decisive blow in dramatic fashion when Raúl García netted the winner in the 90th minute, sealing a famous victory for the home side and handing Los Blancos a costly setback in the title race.
Despite the loss, Real Madrid remain on 60 points at the top of the La Liga table, but their lead is now under serious threat. Barcelona could overtake them if they secure victory against Levante on Sunday.
Osasuna, meanwhile, boosted their tally to 33 points, climbing to ninth place and strengthening their mid-table position.
