Qatar will no longer require visitors to present evidence of a negative COVID-19 test as part of traveling to the country ahead of hosting the soccer World Cup finals starting next month, according to the government on Wednesday.
The country's Ministry of Health mentioned that it had taken the decision, which will come into effect on Tuesday, as the number of new coronavirus cases continued to decline worldwide and in Qatar.
The government will also drop a requirement for visitors and people living in Qatar to download a coronavirus tracking app called Ehteraz and display proof of their virus-free status in order to enter indoor spaces across the country. Instead, the application will only be required for entry into healthcare facilities.
The new rules, which take effect on November 1, will also end a requirement for residents and citizens to get tested within 24 hours of returning to the country.
The FIFA event, one of the biggest sporting events in the world, will kick off on November 20 and run until December 18 in the Middle Eastern country.
