Russian President Vladimir Putin said, in statements on Wednesday morning, that Moscow is ready to use nuclear weapons if the existence of the Russian state is threatened.
Putin added, in an interview with the Russian Information Agency and state television, that Russia is ready for a nuclear war from a military and technical standpoint, but “not everything is pushing toward it” at the present time.
The Russian President stressed that “if America conducts nuclear tests, Russia may do the same thing.”
He pointed out that “the Russian nuclear arsenal is more modern than any other arsenal.”
He stated that “there was absolutely no need to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.”
He continued, saying: “Russia is ready for talks on Ukraine, but on the condition that they are based on facts.”
In response to a question about an “honor agreement” with the West, Putin said that Russia does not trust anyone and wants signed guarantees.
