Brazil's prosecutor general (PGR) announced that it will investigate ex-president Jair Bolsonaro for alleged "instigation and intellectual authorship" of the January 8 sacking of government buildings in Brasilia.

In a statement, the PGR pointed out that it had asked the Supreme Court to include Bolsonaro on a list of people under investigation after he posted a video "questioning the regularity of the 2022 presidential elections."

"Bolsonaro would have publicly incited the commission of a crime," the statement read.

The PGR explained that even though the video came after the uprising, it may serve as "a probative connection" that justified "a global investigation of the acts performed before and after 8 January 2023 by the defendant."

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva recently hinted that the storming of the capital Brasilia by the supporters of Bolsonaro could have been an inside job, and voiced fears that some presidential staff might aim to get rid of him.

"I am convinced that the door of the Planalto (presidential) palace was opened for people to enter because there are no broken doors. This means that someone facilitated their entry," said Lula while talking to the reporters.

Last week, Bolsonaro was reportedly been hospitalized in Florida due to stomach pain. He had a litany of health problems in recent years, as he was stabbed in the abdomen on the campaign trail in 2018. Since then, he had been dealing with a series of medical issues.
