Dr. Kim Critchley, the Academic Head of the Prince Edward Island Canadian University branch at the New Administrative Capital in Egypt, on Thursday, announced the launch of a distance education initiative over the outbreak of coronavirus.
Critchley added that the step comes within the university's precautionary measures to limit the spread of the deadly pandemic.
She pointed out that the initiative comes in coordination with the parent university in Canada, confirming that she is taking into consideration all academic standards, student activities, and safety and security procedures followed at the Prince Edward Island University in Canada to be applied at the university's branch in Cairo.
Critchley stated that the university's branch in Cairo contains a set of electronic platforms that allow the application of distance learning strategy and communication between professors and students, whereby professors can upload curricula, educational materials on the Internet, and give assignments to students, who can also engage with their colleagues and professors in seminars in an interactive electronic environment ensuring the highest levels of education quality.
It is noteworthy that the new capital, with an area of 170,000 feddans (176,460 acres), will include 20 residential areas expected to accommodate 6.5 million people and a road network 650 km in length. The capital will include an international airport and an electric train to link it with the 10th of Ramadan and El-Salam cities.
Also, it will feature 1,250 mosques and churches, a 5,000-seat conference center, nearly 2,000 schools and colleges, over 600 medical facilities, and a park that is projected to be the world’s largest.
