Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received a call from U.S. President Joe Biden, focusing on the collaborative efforts undertaken by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to bring about a ceasefire in Gaza, alongside facilitating detainee exchanges and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

During the call, President Sisi underscored the critical need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire that would allow sufficient and appropriate humanitarian aid access, aiming for a substantial improvement in the conditions within the Gaza Strip.

He warned against the dangers of continued military escalation and the targeting of civilians, affirming Egypt's complete condemnation of any actions targeting unarmed civilians in violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

President Biden commended the joint efforts towards de-escalation, currently a priority for restoring stability in the region. He expressed particular appreciation for Egypt's extensive efforts, both in facilitating the political path towards calm and through its pivotal leadership role in the process of delivering relief aid to the people of Gaza through the Rafah crossing.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, added that the conversation also covered the broader regional situation. Both presidents stressed the importance of avoiding an escalation of conflict in the area and agreed to continue consultations and coordination to ensure the restoration of peace and security in the region.

The call reaffirmed the strength of the strategic partnership between the two countries and explored ways to enhance the distinguished bilateral relations that bind them.

This dialogue highlights the active and concerted international efforts aimed at alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and emphasizes the pivotal role that Egypt plays in the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.
