Pope Francis, the bishop of the Catholic Church, announced that he will receive the Coronavirus vaccine next week, according to AFP.

Last month, the Pope urged the world leaders to transfer funds used in armaments to combat the Coronavirus pandemic and to ensure that vaccines reach the poor and weaker countries.

In his message delivered on the International Day of Peace, which is celebrated by the Catholic Church on January 1, the Pope reiterated his call for raising funds earmarked for weapons to help eradicate poverty.

He said, "How much are the resources spent on armaments, especially nuclear weapons, that can be used in more important priorities such as ensuring the safety of inpiduals, spreading peace, integrating human development, combating poverty and providing health care."

He added, "Global problems such as the current Covid-19 pandemic and climate change have made these challenges more evident."

He continued, saying: "I renew my appeal to the political leaders and the private sector to spare no effort to ensure that anti-Coronavirus vaccines and the basic technologies needed to reach the poor and the most vulnerable."

He saluted the medical cadres and the front-liners who risked their lives to help the victims of the Coronavirus, especially those who died in the process.
