Poland is preparing to receive a new wave of Ukrainian refugees as winter approaches and has prepared "more than 100,000" places in reception centers, Polish Minister of Social Integration Agnieszka Ścigaj said on Monday.
In press remarks, Ścigaj said there is still no indication of an increase in the number of refugees crossing the southern border from Ukraine, which is more than 500 kilometers long.
She said that only 5 to 6 percent of the 20,000 people crossing into Poland at the border were refugees, the rest being regular transit.
Deputy Interior Minister Bartosz Grodesky said that the number of Ukrainian refugees currently in the country is about 1.3 million people.
According to data from the International Organization for Migration, more than 8.79 million Ukrainians have left their country, while the number of internally displaced people has reached 6.9 million since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
