The official PlayStation Twitter account confirmed that PlayStation 5 recorded highest sales comparing of the PlayStation 4, although the company has yet to share official sales figures, according news tech reportes issued on Friday.
Back in 2013, PlayStation's then-CEO Andrew House added that the PS4 had sold 2.1 million units in just over two weeks, declaring it "an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for their company and industry."
Previously, Sony reported it expects to sell over 7.6 million PS5 units by the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2021, outperforming PS4’s launch for the same period. The promise of more PlayStation 5 stock before Christmas will likely be welcomed by the many consumers struggling to obtain a console this month.
With console availability failing to satisfy launch demand, PS5 scalpers are currently seeking to cash in by selling them at extortionate prices on marketplaces like eBay, where a significant number of consoles have already been sold for more than double their retail price.
On other hand, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said PS5 demand had been “very considerable”, with the company taking as many pre-orders in the first 12 hours in the US as it did in the first 12 weeks for PS4.
