The Philippine Department of Agriculture announced that it would ban poultry imports and products from Australia due to the outbreak of bird flu in Australian states.
The ministry stated on Saturday that it would immediately prohibit imports of wild birds, poultry, poultry meat, one-day-old chicks, and eggs from Australia.
Until April, Australia ranked fourth among the Philippines' largest poultry meat suppliers, accounting for four percent of the total poultry imports.
Australia, traditionally a significant supplier of poultry products to the Philippines, has faced challenges in controlling the spread of avian influenza within its borders.
Given the interconnectedness of the global poultry trade, swift and decisive measures, such as the import ban imposed by the Philippines, are crucial in mitigating the risk of introducing the virus into new regions.
