Admiral Philippe de Gaulle, the eldest son of French General Charles de Gaulle, died today, Wednesday, in the French capital, Paris, at the age of 102, according to what his family announced.

Pierre de Gaulle, son of the late Philippe, wrote in his account on the “X” platform: “Admiral de Gaulle, my father, left last night. Let us commemorate a great father and a great Frenchman, whose sense of duty to his country was matched only by elegance and humility. The man of vision, honor and simplicity.” "This is Gaullism after all. Thank you, my dear father!"

Philippe de Gaulle was born on December 28, 1921 in Paris, a former cadet at the École Nautical who joined the Free French Navy in 1940.

He participated in the campaigns in the North Atlantic until 1944, then in the liberation of France from 1944 to 1945 in the "Leclerc" division.

Philippe de Gaulle was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 1948, and finally to admiral in 1980. He ended his military career two years later.

He is the eldest of Charles de Gaulle's three sons. He was a member of the Senate for the city of Paris between 1986 and 2004, and for the center-right "Rally for the Republic" and "Union for a Popular Movement" parties.
