Peru Fails to Set Agreement for Brining Froward General Elections

On Tuesday, the Peruvian parliament failed, Tuesday, for the third time to vote on a bill to bring forward the general elections, including the presidential and legislative elections, to October this year.

The session was rescheduled for Wednesday, after strong debates between different political units in the parliament. The parliament of Peru seemed divided and against the current President Dina Boluarte.

The President of Peru Parliament José Williams said on Twitter: “In order to find consensus among the national representations and at the request of the president of the Constitutions Commission, the plenary session convened to approve the early elections is rescheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday at 11:00."

The debate and vote were initially scheduled for Monday but were later postponed to Tuesday morning, then they were delayed to Wednesday.

The decision came at the request of the Constitutional Commission headed by Fujimorista Hernando Guerra García.
