US Defense Department (Pentagon) announced that an American warship intercepted missiles and drones launched from Yemen, noting that it is investigating whether they were directed towards Israel.
Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder said in a press conference, "A US Navy destroyer intercepted several missiles and drones fired at it off the coast of Yemen."
He added, "The destroyer USS Carney intercepted 3 cruise missiles and about 8 drones."
Ryder explained, "Initial estimates indicate that the destroyer USS Carney was not a target of any missiles or drones."
He indicated that information related to the incident is still being processed.
He continued: "We cannot say with certainty what these missiles and drones were targeting, but they were launched from Yemen, heading north along the Red Sea, perhaps to targets in Israel."
He confirmed that none of the American sailors on board the ship were injured.
