Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has emphasized that security and peace can only be achieved through a two-state solution and the end of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
His remarks came during the Cairo Peace Summit, which commenced on Saturday, with a wide-ranging participation of regional and international leaders to discuss developments in the Gaza Strip.
Abbas asserted that the Palestinian people face brutal aggression that violates international humanitarian law, referring to the ongoing crisis.
He stated, "Since day one, we have called for an end to this brutal aggression, but the Israeli occupation government has not heeded our calls to halt the firing of missiles."
Abbas also cautioned against attempts to displace Palestinians from Gaza or expel residents of Jerusalem and the West Bank from their homes.
He highlighted that the cycle of violence continues to recur due to the absence of justice and the neglect of Palestinian rights.
The Palestinian president called upon the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibility for protecting the Palestinian people and ensuring that Palestine obtains full membership and global recognition.
He emphasized that peace can only be realized through the implementation of the two-state solution, the end of occupation, and a resolution to the refugee issue.
