Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas praised the position of the Vatican and His Holiness Pope Francis, which rejects the displacement of the Palestinian people and calls for them to remain in their land.
The Palestinian President said - in a cable he sent to Pope Francis; and which was reported by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), Friday - "We express our appreciation for the position of the Vatican, which rejects the displacement of the Palestinians and calls for them to remain in their land, and that the one who must leave is the occupation; which is consistent with international legitimacy, morality and respect for human rights."
He stressed his confidence in "the Vatican's support for our noble efforts to achieve just peace in the region, the most important of which is consolidating the ceasefire in Gaza, stopping the current Israeli aggression on the cities and camps of the West Bank, accelerating the reconstruction of Gaza, reconnecting it to the West Bank, the State of Palestine assuming its responsibilities, moving towards implementing the two-state solution based on the 1967 lines, ending the occupation and embodying the independent, geographically integrated state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, so that we may live with all the peoples of the region in security, peace and stability."
