Palestinian gunmen stormed an Israeli settlement near Ramallah in the West Bank. The assailants killed 4 Israelis and wounded at least four others in a surprise attack.
A spokesman for the Israeli army (IDF) said the Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a gas station in the Eili settlement, but one of the attackers was killed at the scene.
He added that the IDF launched a wide-scale operation to chase suspected attackers who may take part in the attack.
The Palestinian attack came within less than 24 hours of an operation carried out by the Israeli army in Jenin where 6 Palestinians were killed there.
The Israeli military used warplanes against Palestinians in Jenin for the first time since 2002.
The four Israeli were killed despite the declaration of alertness in case retaliatory operations were implemented by Palestinians.
Hazem Qasem, a spokesman for Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas) said that the response to Israeli aggression did not delay.
