Pakistan has closed all its border crossings with Iran indefinitely amid intensifying military exchanges between Israel and Iran, regional officials confirmed on Monday.
According to Qadir Bakhsh Birkani, a senior official in the Balochistan province bordering Iran, crossings at all five border districts — Chaghi, Washuk, Panjgur, Kech, and Gwadar — have been suspended.
The move comes as fears of regional spillover grow following a major escalation in the Middle East.
The border closure follows Israel’s launch of Operation Rising Lion, a surprise pre-dawn strike on Friday targeting Iranian military leaders and nuclear facilities.
The campaign has already caused significant damage and loss of life. Israel has signalled that further strikes may follow in the coming days.
In response, Iran has vowed to unleash a harsh retaliation, warning of opening the “gates of hell” if Israeli aggression continues.
Israel’s military has stated that the objective of the operation is not regime change but rather the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear programme and long-range missile capabilities.
