Pakistan is celebrating its 78th Independence Day today, on 14th August, with special prayers offered in mosques for peace, solidarity, and prosperity.
The day began with a thirty-one-gun salute in the federal capital and a twenty-one-gun salute at provincial headquarters.
The national flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, where Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, along with Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem, hoisted the national flag.
In his message, Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated the entire Pakistani nation on the 78th Independence Day, stating that this day signifies the culmination of the historic political struggle of the Muslims of India for their right to self-determination.
Zardari also paid homage to the leaders and workers of the Pakistan movement, as well as the forefathers who made countless sacrifices for the creation of Pakistan.
"Our nation has great hopes from us, and we must strive to meet their expectations"
He emphasized the need for the nation to set aside differences and work together for the unity, integrity, and economic stability of the country in the face of current challenges.
Pakistan's President stressed the responsibility to utilize Pakistan's abundant human and natural resources for the welfare of the people, and to uphold the rule of law, strengthen democratic institutions, and work wholeheartedly in the public interest.
He highlighted the high expectations the nation has from its leaders and urged to draw inspiration from the words of the Quaid, emphasizing the well-being of the people, especially the masses and the poor, as a priority for a prosperous Pakistan.
