Oxford British University announced on Monday that an old Dutch woman had died of her second infection with the emerging coronavirus, in what researchers believe, is the first case of its kind, according to Sky News Arabia.
The British University stated in one of its scientific journals, that the 89-year-old patient was suffering from a rare type of leukemia, which could be contained but recovering from it was difficult because she had contracted COVID-19.
The researchers said the woman arrived at the emergency department earlier this year with a fever and severe cough, which was discovered to be a COVID-19 infection.
The senior patient stayed in the hospital for 5 days, until she recovered almost completely, except for a state of fatigue.
About two months later, and specifically two days after the start of a new round of chemotherapy in terms of fighting cancer, the symptoms of Corona began to appear again, especially fever, coughing and shortness of breath.
Upon being subjected to a corona examination, the result was positive for the 2nd time. Two weeks later, the woman died of Corona virus.
The team of researchers was able to test samples of her two cases of infection, and they were shocked when they discovered that the genetic makeup of each virus was so different that they could not explain it.
Researchers say that their database shows that there are 23 people around the world who have been infected twice with the epidemic, and all of them have recovered.
