The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported today that more than 15,000 children have been killed since the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip began on October 7th.
According to their statement on the platform "X," a total of 15,103 children have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict in Gaza over the past seven months.
Since October 7th, Israeli forces have continued their assault on Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 35,233 people and injuries to 79,141 others.
In addition, the global movement for the defense of children has highlighted that Israeli forces continue to systematically and widely mistreat and torture Palestinian children in their custody.
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the movement documented 838 cases of torture of Palestinian children detained by the Israeli military between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2023.
The global movement warned that the ongoing impunity and lack of accountability for Israeli soldiers, who are aware that they will not face consequences for their actions, encourage them to persist and escalate their violations.
This poses a significant threat to the lives of Palestinian civilians, particularly children.
International law's absolute prohibition against torture stipulates that no child or adult should be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.
This extensive violence and loss of life underscore the urgent need for international intervention and a renewed commitment to upholding human rights and protecting vulnerable populations in conflict zones.
