Orascom CEO Khaled Bichara Dies in Fatal Car Crash

Engineer Khaled Bichara, CEO of Orascom Development Holding, owned by billionaire Naguib Sawiris, has died Thursday night in a fatal car crash at the age of 48.

The fatal accident took place at Al Remaya square, Giza, after his car collided with a plateless transport vehicle.

A number of social media users circulated photos of the accident, confirming that the plateless truck had collided with Bichara’s car, which led to it being flipped.

They also revealed that the car had only one person inside, which was the car driver, Bichara.

Bichara’s last post on social media was on 26 January, providing advice to entrepreneurs on how to kick off a startup, and how he believes that entrepreneurs are the best bet for a better future.

It is worth mentioning that Bichara, born on July 27, 1971, had graduated from the American University in Cairo and obtained a certificate of specialization in Computer Science in 1993.

He studied business administration at Stanford University and the American Institute of Banking and Finance.

In 1996, he co-founded LINKdotNET, at the time called LINK Egypt, Egypt's first Internet Service Provider (ISP) company.

In, 2000 he was appointed by Orascom Telecom Holding as the company's Chief Internet Strategist, which became the largest investor in LINKdotNET in 1999 with a 54% stake in the company.

Bichara was appointed in 2000 as Orascom's Chief Internet Strategist before joining its board 3 years later.

In November 2009, Bichara served as the new Group Chief Executive Officer of Orascom Telecom Holding.

He left behind his wife Marianne and two children, Sherif and Galal Bichara.
