The Muslim Council of Elders has affirmed that Islam commanded us to take care of our mothers' and show kindness to them. This is due to the positive impact many have had on the lives on their children. Almighty Allah said : (And We have commanded people to honour their parents. Their mothers bore them through hardship upon hardship.) (Luqman : 14). Almighty Allah also connected kindness towards parents to worship, He said: (For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents.) (Al-Isra : 23)

The Council added in a statement, on the occasion of Mother's Day, which falls on 21 March of each year that the noble sunnah also discussed this matter as it was narrated that a man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I want to go out and fight and I have come to ask your advice." He said: "Do you have a mother?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her feet." (An-Nasa'i)

The Council also encouraged people to be kind to their parents by practicing piety and bringing them happiness. Almighty Allah commanded us to care for our parents as a small token of appreciation towards their sacrifices.
