The New York Times (NYT), a US daily newspaper, said, quoting high-ranking officials in the Biden administration, that secret war documents detailing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO) and US plans to prepare the Ukrainian army before the upcoming attack against Russia were leaked, and these documents were published on social media channels.
The newspaper pointed out that the US Department of Defense ( Pentagon) is investigating who is behind the leak of the documents, which appeared on Twitter and Telegram, a platform that has more than half a billion users and is widely used in Russia.
Military analysts said that the documents appeared to have been amended in certain parts from their original draft, to exaggerate US estimates of the deaths in the Ukraine war, and underestimate the number of Russian forces killed.
The documents do not provide specific battle plans, such as when, how, and where Ukraine intends to launch its offensive, which U.S. officials say is likely in the next month or so.
Because the documents are five weeks old, they provide a snapshot of the time, and the American and Ukrainian view, up to March 1, of what Kyiv's forces might need to attack.
