The "Star Trek" franchise hasn't seen a new cinematic production since the 2016 movie "Star Trek Beyond". Now it seems fans may be only two years away from the next sci-fi chapter, as the next Star Trek installment is finally moving forward at Paramount.
Paramount Pictures announced a June 9th, 2023 release date for an untitled Star Trek movie.
Last month, the studio hired the "Star Trek: Discovery" writer Kalinda Vazquez to create the script for a movie based on an original idea of hers, but it is not clear if that is the same project.
The news comes as a part of Paramount's recent release date rescheduling for "Fast & Furious" and "Top Gun: Maverick".
The upcoming production will be produced by JJ Abrams, who directed both the 2009 "Star Trek" reboot and its sequel "Into Darkness", as well as produced "Star Trek Beyond".
